About Karen...

As a retired faculty emeritus college instructor and program coordinator, Karen Robert taught Leadership and Peer Counseling courses at Cuesta College for 17 years, and has over 23 years experience in community college teaching and management. In her role at Cuesta College, she was responsible for coordination and supervision of a variety of student centered programs; the student center facility; advising student government; overseeing the service learning & peer counseling program; the academic certificate programs in Service Leadership and Leadership Studies, as well as grant writing and garnering support for the building of the Student Center.

For the past two years, she has been a Live–Now Leadership Life Coach providing private consultations and workshops that teach individuals, groups and families how to program their life for success.

She has served on the Morro Bay Friends of the Library Board of Directors since November 2005, both as 2nd Vice President–Membership, and currently as President.

She facilitates and coordinates three groups @ the Morro Bay Library: Readers' Community Book Discussion Group, Current Topics Discussion Group and 4th Wednesdays program which celebrates and promotes an appreciation of literature through local author readings, special presentations and other literary activities.

In 2007 she was appointed as the District 2 representative on the County Economic Advisory Committee. She was also a member of the Board of Directors for the Foundation for San Luis Obispo County Public Libraries. She worked with city staff and council members on the city project to develop a Dog Park for the City of Morro Bay; and Chaired the 1st Countywide Library Summit – Great Expectations Event.

Karen loves to learn and values lifelong learning which is demonstrated in her own educational accomplishments: Bachelor of Science in Business Administration – University of Phoenix – 1984; Masters of Arts in Education with major emphasis in Organizational Leadership – Pepperdine University – 1987; & a Certificate in Management Development from Harvard University – 1993. She also has professional training and Certificates in Success Strategies for College and Life, 2002; Compassionate Communication, 1998; Conflict Resolution & Mediation Skills, 1998; and, Facilitating Skills for Enhancing Self-Esteem, 1997. She is a local author having written “Opening Doors to College Success” which was published by Kendall/Hunt in 1992. Awards include Cuesta College Board of Trustees Resolution for Outstanding Service & Innovation – Student Center, 1995; selected as an “Extraordinary Woman in the Community” by the Tribune in 1999, and Excellent Teacher Recognition in 2003 & 2004 through nominations from her students.
